about
Bill Harry is a bona fide legend the mastermind of Merseybeat magazine and I'm proud to say a friend. Bill has written a lot of poetry over the years mostly philosophical. I loved the narrative of his poem, "The street leads to the river", it's themes of love love and longing. I couldn't help but think the river Bill alludes to is the Mersey. Bill and his friends Rod, Stuart, & John, were the most famous students of Liverpool art college. The college was taken over by John Moores University by the time me and my friends were fine art students. i often quizzed tutors about the famous ex student "The Dissenters", we also used to drink in the Ye Crake pub they frequented. Years later I'm proud to call Bill my friend and its with his blessing we release our musical version of "The street leads to the river".
lyrics
THE STREET LEADS TO THE RIVER.
V1)
The street leads to the river
Which flows into the sea
(Into the sea)
The sea runs to the Ocean
And a world I want to see.
(I want to see)
(A-Whoa wo wo wo wo wo wo wo)
V2)
So I pack my bags in the evening
And start my journey then
(My Journey then)
Aboard a ship that sails away
But I’ll come back again.
(come back again whoa wo wo)
Chorus 1)
She waits there on the corner
Of the street I used to know
(I used to know)
For the guy who will not turn up
But how was she to know.
(How was she to know)

- (Those Mersey dreams)
- Lost into the sea

- Guess it’s meant to be
- (It’s meant to be)
V3)
The years they pass so slowly
As round the world I’d roam
(The world I’d roam)
But nothing seems so good to me
As the thoughts I have of home.
(I’d have of home A whoa whoa wo wo wo wo)
V4)
I arrive back in the evening
To the street where I was born
(Where I was born)
I looking for the girl with yellow hair
To find that she had gone.
(That she is gone on whoa wo)
Chorus 2)
They told me she got married
Soon after I sailed away
Although she cried so many many times
The pain it would not fade away
